Inspired by his own challenging childhood, Joe’s life’s work is a testament to his unwavering dedication to youth development. and nonprofit causes. His journey began with a mission to address the holistic and educational needs of disadvantaged youth. This dedication led him to connect with youth development nonprofits and additional nonprofits whose causes resonated with his passion for helping others.
Joe’s academic achievements, including Master’s Degrees in Education from Salem State University and Harvard University, are were just the beginning of his journey as a lifelong learner. He has further honed his skills through numerous workshops and courses in Nonprofit Leadership and Management, Nonprofit Budgeting, Resource Development, Capital Campaigns, Program Assessment & Metrics, and Staff Development. His commitment to learning is evident in his completion of the Advanced Leadership Program in Executive Leadership at the University of Michigan, taught by Dr. Noel Tichy.
Joe’s diverse experiences have shaped him into a successful collaborative leader. He is known for his results-driven, action-oriented problem-solving approach. For almost two decades as a high school principal, Joe dedicated himself to meaningfully addressing youth development via holistic and educational needs, particularly those disadvantaged. As a result of his success as a leader in education, he was nominated Mass Principal of the Year in 2004.
In Joe’s nonprofit career, he turned around an organization burdened by years of operating deficits and other challenges, refreshing and engaging the Board, enlarging the donor base, and creating an efficient operational structure that moved the organization to financial health. Joe’s tenure culminated in a successful $90M Capital Endowment Campaign for a new clubhouse and administrative headquarters in North Central Harlem. As a result, Joe was honored as Madison Square’s Executive Director Emeritus in 2018.
Joe became Executive Director of Boys Hope Girls Hope of New York after that. He overhauled most aspects of the organization, particularly raising funds, revising the financial structure, and creating more precise program accountability.
Over the past few years, Joe has focused on Interim Executive work and completed two training courses to successfully lead nonprofit organizations through the challenge of transitioning to a new leader. As the Interim Executive Director of the Welcome Project, Joe led the organization by addressing significant serious challenges, including restaffing and reorganizing the operational and financial systems.
