Howard Sitron

Howard Sitron holds a deep understanding of how organizations operate and achieve desired impact gained through his career in the nonprofit universe. In roles beginning with mental health case manager and hospital administrator to president/CEO of a large multi-service agency, his experience informs his ability to step into a wide variety of positions successfully. Howard’s work spans health care, developmental disabilities, immigration, therapeutic education, adoption, child welfare, mental health and workforce development.

The common thread in Howard’s work has been a collaborative, goal-oriented win-win approach embracing strong board/management relationships. Key achievements include:

  • Turn-around of the national Breast Cancer 3-Day series when it faltered under its original beneficiary and producers, resulting in significant increases in the return to charity
  • Merger of child and family service and workforce development agencies in Chicago, along with related foundations, achieving economies of scale and service enhancements through an integrated service approach
  • Facilitated visioning and development leading to revitalization of two long-time international membership organizations into one new entity positioned to best support its 150+ members into the future
  • Successfully guided large capital projects, LEED gold-certified new construction and purchase/renovation, from conception through design, fundraising, land acquisition, construction and implementation.

Howard is a seasoned nonprofit executive with comprehensive skills covering all functional areas of leadership and management, including strategic planning, program development and life-cycle analysis, board development and education, annual and capital fundraising, budget/fiscal oversight, facilities strategic planning, marketing and PR, collective bargaining unit negotiation and relations, advocacy at the local, state and national level, and development of collaborative partnerships with providers and funders.

Howard furthers his community impact through volunteer work. His voluntary service over the years covers a wide range of philanthropic organizations. It includes stints as board chair and treasurer of arts therapies providers, neighborhood empowerment, mental health, developmental disabilities, and an international membership organization. Howard also provides pro bono consultation and coaching to nonprofit leaders in Chicago and Philadelphia.

Howard is a working musician, performing on trumpet with a variety of bands in the Chicago and Philadelphia areas.

Howard holds a Master of Health Administration from St Joseph’s University and Bachelor of Social Work from West Chester State.
