David is a results-oriented, enthusiastic, and successful non-profit leader with over twenty-five years of experience. He has worked with a range of clients in government, non-profit and the private sector, including the Brooklyn Botanic Garden, Urban Dove Schools, Montefiore Health Care system, City University of New York (CUNY), Amplify, and Education Through Music.
David is the former President of PENCIL, a premier non-profit organization that creates innovative and impactful models of collaboration between businesses and the education system. He led the Pencil staff and Board of Directors in creating and executing a 5-year strategic plan, focused on growing the organization, providing more opportunities for underserved students, increasing fund raising and deepening corporate relationships.
Prior to serving at Pencil, David was appointed by Mayor Michael Bloomberg as the Deputy Chancellor in the New York City Department of Education (DOE), the largest school district in the US, with over 1.1 million students, 120,000 employees and 1,600 schools. In this position, he oversaw all policies, strategy and programs related to teachers and school staff in the education department. David also was appointed as the Chief Academic and Accountability Officer for the School District of Philadelphia and was a principal and teacher earlier in his career.
David holds Master’s degrees in Organizational Leadership from Harvard University and Columbia University, and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Trinity College. David has two school-age children, and he enjoys traveling with his family, cooking, and reading.
