Amy Sananman 

Amy Sananman is a public-sector executive with over 25 years’ experience developing and managing impactful, creative, cross-sector solutions to some of NYC’s greatest social justice challenges. She has held varied senior positions in organizations with budget sizes ranging from $2 to $200 million. Amy has dedicated her career to advancing public|private|nonprofit partnerships to make an impact in areas such as: criminal justice, arts creative place-making,
youth development, civic engagement, and community well-being. She brings extensive senior leadership expertise in areas of strategic vision and planning, board relations, data-driven program development and scale out, operations, fundraising, budgeting, finance, innovative business models, grant making, participatory processes, team building, management, transition, and evaluation.  Amy holds a master’s degree in Public Policy from UC Berkeley and a bachelors in Political Science from Barnard College. Based in Brooklyn, she has a deep knowledge of NYC’s neighborhoods and is fluent in Spanish.

After founding and leading Groundswell for 18 years,  Amy served in various senior positions at the NYC Mayor’s Office of Criminal Justice launching programs that invest in communities inequitably impacted by the justice system. She served as Senior Strategy Advisor to the Civic
Engagement Commission, sat on the Mayor’s Task Forces on Disconnected Youth and Racial Equity, the Children’s Cabinet, and Co-Chaired the Joint Task Force on Getting Nonprofits Paid on Time. She went on to serve as Chief Impact and Strategy Officer at United Way NYC.
Amy understands the nonprofit sector from a variety of vantage points. As a founding nonprofit executive director, she understands the challenges and opportunities nonprofits face at various stages of maturity. She is experienced at leveraging relationships in the for-profit and
government spheres and understands both the government and funder perspective. She is certified as an Interim Executive Director and serves as a board member at the Support Center for Nonprofit Management. Amy currently consults on a variety of social impact projects and provides interim executive director support to help maximize nonprofits impact during leadership transition.
