Marty Walz

Marty Walz has a distinguished record of accomplishment in the nonprofit, corporate, and government sectors, which allows her to draw on the strengths of each when working with her clients. She provides executive level support to organizations of all sizes, and her work includes project management, strategic planning, fundraising, communications and advocacy, board development, and interim leadership roles.

Prior to founding her own firm, Marty served as the President and Chief Executive Officer of Planned Parenthood League of Massachusetts, a $19 million organization serving 30,000 patients annually at seven health centers and reaching more than 50,000 students, parents, and teaching professionals each year through its education programs.

Marty has held leadership positions at nonprofit and public organizations including Jumpstart for Young Children, where she was Vice President of Development, and Boston Public Schools, where she was Assistant Director of Human Resources.

Her deep experience in the nonprofit sector includes serving on the boards of the Reproductive Health Technologies Project, MassInsight Education, the National Center on Time and Learning, and NARAL Pro-Choice Massachusetts. She has also served as a member of the Charles River Water Quality Commission, the Advisory Council of the Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care, the Kingsley Montessori School Advisory Council, and the Women’s Lunch Place Board of Directors and Advisory Committee.

A former State Representative, she represented the 8th Suffolk District for 8 years.  Among her legislative achievements, she was the author of the 2010 education reform law that propelled Massachusetts into first place in the Obama administration’s 2010 Race to the Top grant competition, the widely heralded anti-bullying law, and the path breaking law allowing the establishment of virtual schools. While in the House of Representatives, Marty held numerous leadership positions, including Assistant Vice-Chair of the House Ways and Means Committee, House Chair of the Education Committee, Vice-Chair of the House Ethics Committee, and Co-Chair of the Caucus of Women Legislators.

Marty is a seasoned employment attorney, having practiced law at the national law firm Littler Mendelson and at the venerable Boston law firm Palmer & Dodge. She also worked as Associate General Counsel for Harcourt General, Inc., where she managed labor and employment law matters for a publishing, entertainment, and retail company with $4.5 billion in revenue and 40,000 employees globally.

Marty holds a Masters in Public Administration from Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government, where she was a Kennedy Fellow and a Lucius N. Littaur Fellow. Marty also has a J.D. from New York University School of Law and a B.A. from Colgate University, from which she graduated magna cum laude and as a member of Phi Beta Kappa.
