Minor brings extensive experience in managing change within mission driven organizations helping to align programs, people, culture and funding around clear strategic and organizational goals. He understands that just as strong leadership is fundamental to success, change in leadership harbors opportunities for organizations in transition to re-energize and to grow in new ways.
Throughout his career, he has co-founded social impact startups as well as helped drive change through large, complex institutions. He led program development following major emergencies, served in an international crisis management team, co-led DEI action planning, and facilitated many strategic planning processes across widely different contexts. Ideas and innovation (and crisis) are the seeds of organizational change yet engaging a broader set of stakeholders and managing responsive processes to build a common agenda are part of the trail to success. He believes strongly in collaboration and shared purpose and is skilled in listening, building and managing teams, developing trust and finding creative pathways forward.
Minor has held senior leadership roles at multiple nonprofit organizations, most recently as the Executive Director of the Center for Progressive Reform and the US Program Director of Oxfam America. Throughout his career, he has secured $30 million in institutional gifts while directing programs in the fields of environment, community development, housing, workforce, food systems and immigration, principally in the US but also in Latin America. By identifying common ground and connecting across differences, he has built and led coalitions and membership organizations in different settings.
As a grant maker and a collaborator, Minor has also engaged 100 community-based organizations, helping them to become better at their leadership and operations, making decisions, caring for their people and achieving impact. Through trial and achievement, he has gained insights into the complexity of organizational culture, leadership and process.
In a recent engagement, one of his stakeholders offered this: “Your energy, commitment, and dedication have improved the organization beyond any expectation that we had. You opened new worlds of fundraising for us, you professionalized our operations to a great degree, and your enthusiasm injected new excitement into our organization. We owe all of that to you and more.” That has become his standard for excellence.
For Minor, community service is his vocation as well as his profession. He is a volunteer with Community Action Partners, a program of the Harvard Business School Association of Boston, which supports area nonprofits. He co-founded the Equitable Food Initiative and helped launch Living Wage for US, a standard-setting agency for employers. He was a founding member of the Diversity and Equity Committee of Boston Latin School and recently concluded ED mentoring for Sin Barreras/Without Borders in Virginia.
Minor completed his undergrad studies at Davidson College in North Carolina graduating with a so-called “blue sky” diploma in Special Studies. Later, he earned an MPA from Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government after being awarded a Pforzheimer scholarship for his work with nonprofits. He speaks Spanish (advanced).
