Marlene Malin Ibsen is a highly accomplished corporate citizenship and communications executive, retired after a distinguished 30-year career at The Travelers Companies, Inc. She concluded her tenure as Vice President of Community Relations and President & CEO of the Travelers Foundation, a role in which she led a team of corporate citizenship professionals and managed an annual budget of approximately $20 million for charitable giving and community relations.

Marlene is recognized as a seasoned and strategic executive with a proven ability to develop and execute high-level strategies, cultivate collaborative partnerships, and manage significant organizational change. Her core strength lies in translating vision into measurable impact, having established comprehensive systems for tracking and measuring key community relations metrics and ensuring data-driven reporting. She is a skilled relationship manager, successfully cultivating and maintaining productive relationships with her foundation board, civic leadership, and a wide array of stakeholders.

A hallmark of her leadership is her passion for creating shared value and fostering equitable opportunity. At Travelers, she championed a strategic philanthropy approach focused on aligning corporate resources with community needs to promote Academic & Career Success, Thriving Neighborhoods, and Culturally Enriched Communities. This approach led to the design and scaling of complex programs, such as the acclaimed Travelers EDGE® career pipeline program, which has successfully supported local, low-income students to college graduation and career preparedness for nearly 20 years. She also brings extensive experience in crisis communications, public relations management, and external affairs.

Prior to leading Community Relations, Marlene held various corporate communications and public relations management roles at Travelers. In these positions, she demonstrated strong leadership in crisis communications and media relations, developing and executing public affairs strategies for events such as the company’s spin-off and IPO, and leading communications during mergers and acquisitions. Her early career included work as a writer/producer, consulting, and roles in communications and fundraising for nonprofit organizations.

As a first-generation college graduate, holding an M.S. in Communications Management from Syracuse University and a B.S. in Radio-TV-Film from Texas Christian University, Marlene is deeply committed to expanding opportunity and economic mobility. She maintains an active community leadership role, serving as Vice Chair & Director for the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving, and as Treasurer & Director for College Possible National. Her experience and dedication position her as a highly valuable leader ready to guide mission-driven organizations.
