Dr.-John-Bader

Dr. John Bader is a passionate supporter of non-profits and educational institutions like yours. With 29 years of experience as an effective leader, he has helped many organizations to rethink their strategies, rebuild their teams, communicate with more impact, re-engage their volunteers, and magnify the commitment of board members to prepare for the organization’s next steps. In varied settings, he has been invited to lead an institutional reinvention, respectful of hard work already done while helping stakeholders to find new consensus and direction when needed or to maintain momentum. He specializes in helping staff and boards collaborate more effectively, creating a sustainable work culture and financial model.

Dr. Bader’s career is anchored in higher education, becoming a professor, program director, and dean at UCLA and Johns Hopkins University after earning his doctorate at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, with a fellowship at the Brookings Institution. Helping students to thrive, even under difficult circumstances, became his principal focus, reforming advising at Hopkins and writing books for students and their parents. He has worked in large, decentralized institutions like International Baccalaureate, as well as small educational programs, such as a coalition of universities.

As a Fulbright scholar, a political scientist specialized in Congress, and a leader on a US Senate campaign, he brought advocate skills and passion for mission to the Fulbright alumni association. There he built a strong, long-tenured team, improved board relations and development, stabilized finances, professionalized fundraising, engaged chapters nationwide, developed the Fulbright Prize into a premier event, and launched community outreach programs.

John has a special place in his heart for the performing arts as a lifelong a cappella singer in groups like the Yale Whiffenpoofs and Tone Rangers.
