Amy Shapiro has over 20 years of experience in the non-profit sector entailing administrative oversight, fiscal accountability, fundraising, event management, human resources and board development. With close to 10 years specifically in museum management, Amy is also well versed in retail operations, facilities, security, and exhibition programs. Amy has 15 years of direct supervisory experience and is passionate about developing an organizational culture of growing employees via professional development, mentorship, and progressive responsibility.

Currently focused on interim management, Amy has helped organizations such as Young and Healthy and Ryman Arts through key leadership transitions by readying their board and staff for new leadership, overseeing day-to-day operations, and utilizing the time with the organization to deliver thorough recommendation reports.

Previously the Deputy Director at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles (MOCA), Amy oversaw all business functions for the museum. Managing a museum through a pandemic was challenging but Amy relied on her innate problem solving abilities to tackle new obstacles quickly and thoughtfully. During her time at MOCA, Amy worked to establish both a board DEI&A (Diversity, Equity, Inclusivity & Accessibility) committee, and a DEI&A staff advisory working group. As a working member of both groups, Amy brought forward trainings on anti-racism and gender inclusivity, and implemented a professional development program designed to create equitable access to funds.

Prior to her role at MOCA, Amy served as COO/Managing Director of the Zimmer and Cayton Children’s Museums. Amy first led the agency through a re-organization resulting in a new administrative structure and then the build out of a new children’s museum. On a day-to-day basis, Amy was responsible for developing and adhering to the annual budget, overseeing all senior operations, program and development staff, strategic mission aligned program growth, increasing fee for service earned revenue and special events.

Immediately prior to joining the Zimmer team, Amy served as Co-Executive Director at P.S. ARTS, where she provided professional fundraising leadership by overseeing and taking an active role in the activities of the advancement team in coordinating continued development of a diverse base of contributors, enabling the organization to meet programming and financial goals.  While in this role, Amy was also responsible for overseeing all administrative, financial and human resources functions, and enhancing the internal organization processes and infrastructure to allow for effective and efficient fulfillment of the organization’s mission. During her tenure at P.S. ARTS, Amy also served as the Development Assistant, Associate Director of Foundation and Government Grants, Director of Special Events, and Director of Communications & Advancement.

Prior to joining P.S. ARTS in 2001, Amy, who has a background in special education, was a High School Program Manager for Best Buddies of California, a non-profit organization dedicated to enhancing the lives of people with developmental disabilities.

Amy graduated from the University of Georgia with a B.A. of Science and earned a Masters Degree in Public Administration, with an emphasis on Non-Profit Management, from the University of Southern California.
