Susan Musinsky leads 4Change, a coaching and advisory organization that builds on her decades of experience as a nonprofit executive guiding leaders and boards in advancing organizational growth. Her work at 4Change continues her long-standing commitment to strengthening capacity at all levels—staff, boards, and communities—and to supporting organizations as they pursue long-term sustainability.
From 2005 to 2023, Susan served as Founding Director of the Social Innovation Forum (SIF). Under her leadership, SIF grew from a volunteer initiative of Root Cause to an independent, thriving, nationally recognized organization with a $3M+ budget and consistent annual revenue growth, sustained by a robust network of hundreds of nonprofit and funding partners. She led the organization’s successful spin-off, built a dynamic board, and introduced CORE—Community Organizations Reimagining Ecosystems—a national leadership program for intermediary social change organizations.
After 18 years, Susan concluded her tenure at SIF with a thoughtful, well-designed succession planning process that ensured a smooth transition and positioned the organization for continued success.
Throughout her career, Susan has advised and mentored hundreds of nonprofit leaders and boards, supporting them in strategic decision-making and governance while staying grounded in authentic community engagement. Her approach is rooted in equity and collaboration. She works across all levels of social change, fostering relationships built on trust and mutual respect.
Earlier in her career, Susan served as Executive Director of the National Conference for Community and Justice’s Greater Boston Region, where she tripled organizational capacity and expanded signature leadership programs while advancing diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging. During this time, she helped found LeadBoston, a cross-sector leadership program, and directed Anytown New England, a youth leadership camp focused on supporting youth civic engagement.
In addition to her executive leadership roles, Susan has served as adjunct faculty at Boston College’s Carroll School of Management, where she developed and co-taught the “Leading for Social Impact” practicum course for several years as part of the Managing for Social Impact minor. There, she guided students as they examined social impact from multiple perspectives and encouraged them to chart their own paths, no matter where their careers might take them.
Susan’s governance and community leadership experience is extensive. She currently serves as a founding member of the board of Co.Act Detroit and as a commissioner on the newly formed Watertown Human Rights Commission. She has also been a founding board member for numerous organizations, including the Watertown Community Foundation and The City School (Boston), and she remains deeply engaged in initiatives that strengthen community voice and impact.
Susan is known for her collaborative approach and commitment to inclusive communities. She strengthens organizations and leaders while cultivating trust-based partnerships that shift resources and power toward the communities driving change.
