Miriam Messinger (she/her) has devoted her professional life to building and supporting healthy organizations – that is, organizations that are well-resourced, mission-driven, focused on serving their communities, and that have staff who are engaged and feel valued.

Miriam’s colleagues and clients talk about her ability to listen deeply and to focus on critical challenges and tackle those challenges in collaborative ways, and on her capacity to hold multiple priorities at the same time.

Since 2000, Miriam has served as an executive director of a youth leadership organization for seven years, as Director of Practice/leadership team at the Interaction Institute for Social Change (IISC) for 12 years, (https://interactioninstitute.org/) and as an interim executive director for two other organizations for two years. In these roles she worked with all staff, senior leaders and Board members. At IISC she helped to pilot a new approach to strategic direction setting in unstable times.

In addition to these leadership roles, Miriam’s work of the past 15 years has included her service as an organizational development and racial equity consultant in organizations both large and small, practicing her craft of collaborative leadership. Specifically, this has included:
~Leadership development, training, and coaching on transitions, equity leadership, and more
~Strategy planning and implementation
~Equity goal setting and achievement
~Facilitation of dynamic engagements from complex, high-stakes conversations to multi-year learning communities

As both an interim and ongoing internal leader of organizations, Miriam honed her organizational leadership skills, including supervision and coaching, staff development, organizational culture change, planning and financial skills, and business development/fundraising as she worked with senior leaders, board members, and communities. Miriam also served as a program officer responsible for health equity grants and learning strategy at the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts Foundation.

Miriam is a white leader who is deeply experienced working in multi-racial communities on issues of justice. To this, she brings the experience of living in and conducting research in several countries outside of the US. Woven throughout her career is a deep commitment to including multiple voices, authentic and collaborative leadership, and structures that help us to live our values.

One of Miriam’s favorite diversions was as a baker, spending the early hours measuring, stirring, mixing, and kneading, returning home at 7 a.m. covered in flour and chocolate. Her biggest life commitment is her role in her family, raising the next generations, and in her community, building enduring connections and relationships.

Miriam studied cities and Latin American development at Harvard University and received her Masters in Public Health from Boston University.
