As Co-Founder and CEO of the Blue Man Group from 1988 to 2010, Matt transformed a single off-Broadway production into a Grammy-nominated global theatrical sensation with a $100M annual revenue and two platinum albums. He managed over 850 employees across five continents, orchestrating strategic business functions, overseeing C-Suite executives, and expanding the brand through international tours and sit-down shows.
Matt’s expertise spans various domains, including business development, negotiation, large scale renovations, performance, music, creative direction, finance, partnerships, branding, sponsorships, marketing, and advertising. Matt continues today in his role as the Owner, Operator, and Promoter of Astor Place Theater in New York City. This iconic venue, home to the Blue Man Group for 34 years and now home to the long term tenancy of Off-Broadway and Broadway production company No Guarantees, has thrived under Matt’s leadership, where he oversees box office operations, ticket sales, audience engagement, daily theater operations, and licensing agreements.
Matt’s contributions extend to education as the Co-Founder and Board Vice Chair of Blue School 2006-2023, an innovative educational nonprofit in New York City that balanced academic mastery, creative thinking, and social-emotional intelligence. Matt continues to lend his experience to nonprofits through consultancies, coaching, speaking engagements, and interim executive directorships.
Matt holds a B.A., M.B.A., an honorary doctoral degree from Clark University, and completed the Exponential Fundraising course at Harvard University, as well as the Executive Coach Training course at Columbia University Teachers College.
