Alfred Wise has spent 25 years in operations and organizational leadership roles across the nonprofit, social enterprise, and for-profit sectors, working in the U.S. and Africa. He specializes in helping organizations manage growth, leadership transitions, and structural change, building the systems and teams an organization needs to scale with effective operations.
He began his career on the executive team of a marketing company that went public on the NYSE, where he learned early how organizations use data and finance to make decisions. He then moved into the nonprofit sector, joining Community Wealth Partners in Washington, D.C., a consulting firm that helped nonprofits build sustainable revenue strategies. He was later named CEO, leading the firm to profitability while advising dozens of nonprofit leaders on the revenue and operational strategies they needed to grow sustainably.
He then spent 15 years working in East Africa. As VP of Business Operations at Komaza, he helped scale a sustainable forestry model reaching tens of thousands of smallholder farmers in Kenya. As Country Director for Uganda and later Director of Strategic Innovations at Living Goods, he supported networks of community health workers delivering maternal and child health care. As Country Director for Tanzania at KickStart International, he ran operations for a company manufacturing and selling irrigation equipment to smallholder farmers. He also advised BasiGo, a Nairobi e-mobility startup, on its operations. Across these roles, he managed operations, finance, HR, IT, and administration, often across multiple countries and multi-million-dollar budgets, and often during periods when these organizations were growing quickly or changing leadership.
Alfred is often brought in during transitions when an executive director departs unexpectedly, when a growing organization has outgrown its systems, or when a team needs stronger operational infrastructure to support its next stage of growth. He is particularly effective at developing managers-of-managers, strengthening leadership pipelines, and building the processes an organization needs for accountability without adding unnecessary bureaucracy.
Alfred holds a B.A. from Columbia University and completed graduate coursework toward an MBA at NYU Stern. He lives in Seattle with his wife and their four boys, two human and two canine.
