Meegan O’Neil is a Nonprofit Chief Executive and Strategic Advisor with over two decades of experience driving organizational strategy, operational stabilization, and community impact across Massachusetts nonprofits. Stepping into interim leadership roles through Interim Executive Solutions (IES), Meegan combines multi-million-dollar financial stewardship with a proven track record of guiding boards through planned leadership transitions, affiliate mergers, and multi-site operational growth. She provides boards of directors with steady, transparent governance, immediate operational stability, and complete funder continuity during critical bridge periods.
Throughout her executive career, Meegan has consistently delivered rapid stabilization and measurable financial and programmatic results within her first 6 to 12 months in a seat. As Executive Director for Essex County Habitat for Humanity ($4M budget) she directed teams of up to 25 staff and 2,000+ annual volunteers while turning around operating budgets to generate positive cash flow and net operating surpluses. At Merrimack Valley Habitat, she facilitated an end-to-end strategic partnership and affiliate merger with a neighboring organization—leading board due diligence, stakeholder communications, and securing unanimous leadership approval to expand regional impact.
Earlier in her career, Meegan served in major executive capacities across the YMCA of the North Shore, including Chief Strategy Officer, Regional Executive Director, and Executive Director of the Greater Beverly YMCA. In these roles, she managed operational budgets up to $10M and teams of over 500 staff across multi-site branches, camps, and child care centers. Her accomplishments include expanding membership by 50% (growing from 12,000 to 18,000 members), generating annual net budget surpluses of up to $500K, securing public/private capital grants, and orchestrating Association-wide strategic plans while spearheading high-impact cross-sector collaborations with recovery high schools, behavioral health organizations, and special needs providers.
In addition to her executive experience, Meegan brings deeply grounded lived experience navigating special education, autism services, and behavioral healthcare systems as the parent of an child with special needs. This personal perspective gives her a nuanced understanding of the real-world operational realities facing human service providers, families, and community care systems.
Meegan’s commitment to nonprofit governance extends into statewide leadership, having served as Co-Chair of the MA Nonprofit CEO Network (2024–2026), member of the Lawrence Nonprofit Task Force (2020–2025), and Co-Chair of the North Shore Community Health Network. She holds an M.S. in Human Service Administration with a concentration in Organizational Leadership from Springfield College, a B.A. from Connecticut College, and completed ABA Certification coursework at UMass Lowell. Drawing on her extensive chief executive track record, Meegan serves as a trusted partner to boards during organizational transitions—mitigating risk, protecting institutional momentum, and preparing the organization to thrive under permanent leadership.
