Tom Bochenek is an experienced finance executive with more than thirty years of leadership across both corporate and nonprofit environments. His background combines the analytical discipline of banking and management consulting with the practical judgment required to guide mission-driven organizations through transition and growth.
Tom began his career in investment banking with Citi and later worked in strategy consulting with Accenture. These early roles developed his ability to analyze complex organizations, structure financial solutions, and translate business insights into strategic decisions. He went on to hold executive positions at Wells Fargo for more than twenty years, where he led financial planning, forecasting, and administrative functions for major business units. His work required both technical rigor and the ability to communicate financial implications clearly to non-financial leaders.
In recent years, Tom has focused on nonprofit and social-impact organizations. He is often engaged when financial systems need strengthening, when leadership transitions create uncertainty, or when organizations require a clear financial strategy to support growth. Tom quickly assesses financial health, identifies operational gaps, and works with leadership to implement improvements that are sustainable and realistic.
His prior work has included creating reliable financial reporting, rebuilding cash-flow forecasting, improving internal controls, and supporting budget processes that connect financial performance to mission outcomes. He is particularly effective at clarifying information for boards and executive teams, enabling them to make informed decisions with confidence.
Tom’s approach is grounded in collaboration and transparency. He respects existing institutional knowledge while helping organizations adopt better systems and practices. He is committed to leaving each organization stronger, with improved processes and a capable internal finance function ready to support the next stage of development.
As an interim finance leader, Tom provides a flexible engagement model that meets the needs of organizations of varying size and complexity. He works effectively as a part-time or full-time resource, depending on the situation, and maintains high standards of professionalism, objectivity, and confidentiality. His goal in every assignment is to stabilize the organization, strengthen its financial foundation, and ensure a smooth handoff to the permanent leadership team.
Tom holds an M.B.A. from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and a B.S. in Business Administration from the University of California, Berkeley.
