Jose is a seasoned executive leader with over 25 years of experience in non-profit management, and demonstrated expertise in establishing entrepreneurial partnerships and working effectively across diverse communities. He has managed a diverse number of sectors within the aging field including, but not limited to: meals on wheels, older adult centers, case management, friendly visiting, health and wellness, advocacy, leadership development, supportive housing, and mental health programs.
While Jose has significant professional experience leading varying divisions within diverse organizations – predominantly employing a settlement model, it was his stellar tenure as the Executive Director of GRIOT Circle that made him a leading expert on the theory and practice on the intersections of race, social, gender, and age justice, as well as sexual identity and expression in the non-profit management space. He helmed the New York City based organization – the first and only staffed social service organization in the country dedicated to serving LGBTQ+ older adults of color – for over 8 years.
A respected authority in community counseling, Jose is a mental health clinician and professional coach. He holds a BA in Psychology from University at Albany and an MA in Education and Human Development from The George Washington University. He is intentional about working with, and for, disenfranchised and marginalized communities – with multiple intersections – such as older adults, immigrants, people of color, those living in poverty, and the LGBTQ+ community.
