Anthony has nearly 20 years leadership experience in the nonprofit & government sectors. He is highly proficient in strategy and organizational culture, known for translating vision into results with effective communication and inclusive management. He is a subject matter expert in education, health equity, and early childhood development.
As CEO of Literacy Partners, Anthony led an organizational turn-around that enabled a period of transformative growth and impact, expanding the organization’s reach from New York City to six states and Puerto Rico. Under Anthony’s leadership, the nonprofit education program tripled enrollment, increased annual revenue by 68%, and redefined their mission through a trauma-informed, anti-racist lens. He created a division of educational media to embed key messages into mainstream television programs for Spanish-speaking families, reaching more than 9 million viewers nationwide.
During his 11-year tenure at Literacy Partners, Anthony gained deep expertise in executing strategic plans, overseeing personnel and operations, managing revenue and expenses to meet financial benchmarks, and nurturing high-performing organizational cultures. He led a team of 30 staff members (75% of whom were women of color) and 100+ volunteers while engaging a 16-member board of directors.
Anthony’s work has been recognized for innovation and excellence by the Harvard University Center on the Developing Child, the National Center for Families Learning, and the United Hospital Fund.
Earlier in his career, as a Health Policy Advisor to NYC Mayor Mike Bloomberg, Anthony developed expertise in key public health issues and the City’s legislative and budget process. He served as the Mayor’s representative on a number of boards and commissions working side-by-side with the city’s most prominent public health and academic medical leaders.
Recognizing the link between literacy and health outcomes, Anthony persuaded Mayor Bloomberg to establish a citywide adult literacy initiative and launched the Mayor’s Office of Adult Education from the ground up. In that role, he convened nine city agencies and dozens of community organizations to develop a strategic plan for the field and secured $49 million in new funding to expand services and improve results.
Anthony thrives in external affairs with deep fundraising experience and numerous communications industry awards. He is also a filmmaker who has won three Emmy Awards for creating and producing social impact television shows.
He is a graduate of Johns Hopkins University (BA) and Columbia University (MA). Anthony currently serves as the Vice Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Center for Applied Linguistics, a nonprofit organization based in Washington DC advancing research and practice in the area of language learning.
